Technology has led to improvements in many areas of our lives, some that we recognise and appreciate, and some which go unnoticed. One field where technology has had a great impact, is that of dentistry.
Dental care has improved incredibly over the last fifty years, and advances never seem to cease. Dental care is far better than it was, and even now, the introduction of things such as itero technology radically improves patients care.
Before, when an impression of someone's teeth was needed, a putty like substance would need to be used so that the dentist could create a mould. Now, with the advances in technology, this can be done digitally, and a 3D image produced.
This means that patient anxiety is less, there is no mess, and the images are more accurate than the old putty mould method. Non invasive methods of analysis like this in both dentistry and the general fields of medicine are prime examples of how technology is helping to improve our lives.
It is hard to foresee where further developments in the scientific fields will lead to, and how much affect that they will have on our lives. Perhaps, ten or twenty years from now, a technology will exist which will be able to reverse tooth decay, but in the mean time, it seems as though regular check-ups are still essential!
